Fundraising to remain difficult in 2010

Andrew Bentley of Campbell Lutyens speaks to unquote's Emanuel Eftimiu about the challenges faced while fundraising in 2009 and gives his outlook for 2010. He states that despite the bleak overall statistics of last year there were still a few bright spots, especially in the lower mid-market buyout space that recorded a couple of over-subscribed fund closings.

Bentley also notes that institutional investor sentiment has improved, and that he is now seeing private equity allocations from LPs who did not commit throughout 2009. "At the same time though, it will be a number of years until we will see a similar level of committments to those in 2007/08," he concludes.
