Orix buys Robeco for €1.9bn
Japanese financial services firm Orix has bought the asset management arm of Rabobank, Robeco, for €1.935bn.
Rabobank will retain a 9.9% stake in Robeco. The deal will need to obtain regulatory approval from authorities in the Netherlands, Dubai, France, Hong Kong, India, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the US.
Rabobank had put its asset management business up for sale in early 2012 to comply with Basel III requirements. CVC Capital Partners, Advent International and Macquarie dropped out of the auction process, leaving Permira, AMG and Orix as the final bidders in October last year. Permira was believed to be only interested in the firm's European business, while AMG was only eyeing the US division.
Robeco's assets under management increased by 26% to €189bn at the end of December. Net profit increased from €134m to €197m year-on-year.
Robeco was advised by investment bank Leonardo & Co. Orix was advised by Linklaters, Goldman Sachs and KPMG.
