3i-backed Element Materials buys DTL
3i portfolio company Element Materials Technology (formerly Stork Materials Technology) has acquired Detroit Testing Laboratory (DTL).
No further funding was provided by 3i. DTL is a product qualification and testing provider for automotive and manufacturing companies headquartered in Michigan. In 2007, the company opened its first hybrid and electrical battery testing lab in Detroit and has since expanded.
Element has acquired DTL's two original facilities in Michigan, one in Florida and a 10,000 square-foot facility in Washington, adding to its network of laboratories and team of around 1,000 scientists, engineers and technicians in the US and Europe. The acquisition therefore fits with Element's interest in the aerospace & defense and transportation sectors.
3i acquired Dutch company Element Materials Technology (then Stork Materials Technology) from Stork BV in November 2010 for €150m with the intention of growing the company organically and through acquisitions.
