Gimv backs €40m investment in Lampiris
Gimv has jointly invested €40m in Belgian green energy supplier Lampiris with the Regional Investment Company of Wallonia (SRIW).
The fresh capital will be used to finance Lampiris's ongoing growth, with the aim of achieving a higher position in Belgium's gas and green electricity market.
Gimv invested in the company via its Gimv XL fund, which held its final close in March 2010 on €609m.
In 2011, Gimv, SRIW and Lampiris filed an offer for the acquisition of the Belgian division of Nuon, a Dutch energy supplier. The deal fell through when rival buyer Eni offered to pay a higher sum for the company, one that Gimv and Lampiris felt was not in keeping with the valuation it had placed on Nuon Belgium.
Company
Lampiris was founded in 2003. The company is headquartered in Liège and currently employs 170 staff.
The company provides gas and green electricity to private, corporate and public sector customers. It holds a market share of 9% of the gas market and 6.5% of the electricity market, making it Belgium's third largest energy provider.
As of 2011, the company holds the rights to supply a gas and electricity package in France, although its main focus is the Belgian market. Lampiris recorded turnover of €695m for 2012, an 82% increase when compared with 2011, according to Gimv.
People
Managing director Bruno Venanzi and Bruno Vanderschueren are the founders of Lampiris. Gimv partner Dirk Dewals and principal Thomas Dewever worked on the deal for the GP. Olivier Vanderijst is the CEO of SRIW.
