Wellington Partners raise EUR265m for European venture
Wellington Partners has closed Wellington Partners IV Technology at EUR265m, having drawn investors from all over Europe. Access Capital Partners, AGF Private Equity, AlpInvest Partners, European Investment Fund, Horizon21, Konig & Cie, The Wellcome Trust, von Braun & Schreiber and WEGA, as well as new landmark investors such as GIC Special Investments, Pantheon Ventures and Skandia Liv Asset Management contributed.
This spells good times for European technology start-ups seeking funding. Wellington Partners plans to invest in approximately 25 technology companies throughout Europe in the fields of digital media and online services, software and electronics, with seven to 10 investments to be completed per year. Wellington has already completed three investments from this fund, in French travel service provider TravelHorizon, German solar cell specialist Heliatek, and Swiss-founded chip developer Innovative Silicon.
To support this focus on pan-European venture, Wellington has opened an office in London, stating that "all European entrepreneurs congregate on London, which is the hub of European venture capital". Page 07 & Page 13.
