SmartPlanes gets SEK 4m from Inlandsinnovation
SmartPlanes, a Sweden-based aerial photography business, has received SEK 4m from Inlandsinnovation, the government-owned Swedish venture capital firm.
The investment will help the Skellefteå-based company improve its international marketing and establish retailers for its product, as well as hiring a marketing manager.
Ola Friström, founder and CEO of SmartPlanes, said the US market was just starting to gain momentum, while Africa and Asia looked like promising prospects.
Inlandsinnovation's remit is to invest in companies based in the north of Sweden to stimulate growth in the region.
Company
Based in the north of Sweden, SmartPlanes develops and builds lightweight drones equipped with an autopilot system and digital camera, programmed to fly over a pre-defined area of interest while taking photos on a grid.
The drone is meant to be an inexpensive way of creating a detailed photomap of a large area or gathering accurate surface height measurements, for use in a range of industries, such as farming, mining and forestry.
SmartPlanes employs seven people and had revenues of SEK 6m last year.
