
Wise's Biolchim invests in West Coast Marine-Bio Processing
Wise portfolio company Biolchim has acquired a minority stake in West Coast Marine-Bio Processing, a Canadian provider of seaweed-related products to the agricultural sector.
The two companies have an existing partnership, with Marine-Bio Processing currently acting as a supplier to Biolchim-owned specialty fertilizer business Cifo. Headquartered in Bologna, Biolchim acquired Cifo in August 2014, with Wise providing acquisition finance drawn from Wisequity III to support the transaction.
Following completion of the latest deal, the Canadian business will make sales through Biolchim’s more extensive distribution network. The two companies will also seek to develop new products based on the macrocystis seaweed extract in which Marine-Bio Processing specialises.
According to unquote" data, Wise acquired Biolchim from Assietta Private Equity and San Paolo IMI in January 2013 for an estimated consideration of €21m.
