UK Watch: A cold chill in Q2

Despite the warm weather, figures in the latest unquote” UK Watch, in association with Corbett Keeling, could send a chill down the spine of many UK professionals.
Buyout activity was down for both large and small buyouts in the latest quarter, making the first half of 2011 one of the worst on record, with only 2002 and 2009 seeing worse performance at the half-year mark.
For early-stage and expansion, activity fares even worse, with just 67 deals, the first half of 2011 saw deal volume 25% lower than any other period on record.
Industry figures were similarly pessimistic over market prospects compared with recent quarters, with fewer private equity professionals now expecting an increase in deal activity over the next six months.
