Delta leads $6m round for Cleverbug
Irish firm Delta Partners has led a $6m funding round for Cleverbug, the Dublin-based developer of a greetings card app.
Enterprise Ireland is believed to have also taken part in the funding round.
The company plans on using the fresh capital to double its workforce in 2014 by filling 25 new positions. Cleverbug will also use the funds to boost its market position in the US, as well as expand further internationally and develop new products.
Previous funding
Cleverbug received $2.5m in funding in December 2011. Delta provided $1.8m via Delta Equity Fund III, a €105m vehicle raised in 2007. Cleverbug founder and CEO Kealan Lennon supplied the balance alongside other investors.
Delta Equity Fund III typically invests €500,000-5m in technology, healthcare and med-tech companies. The fund predominantly focuses on the UK market but will co-invest elsewhere in the EU.
Company
Founded in 2011, Cleverbug is headquartered in Dublin with an additional office in Palo Alto and currently employs around 25 staff. The company has developed CleverCards, a greetings card app that was launched in January 2013.
CleverCards integrates Facebook to create greetings cards. Users select a friend from their Facebook friends list and choose a personalised card, which can be edited by changing text and selecting photos from the social network.
Following the company's expansion into the US market, the app now features all major US holidays. The company has 75 printing facilities worldwide.
Cleverbug claims CleverCards has been downloaded in more than 150 countries. The app is available on the web, iOS and Android.
