Cognetas rebrands as Motion Equity Partners
Mid-market firm Cognetas has been rebranded as Motion Equity Partners, operating out of Paris and Milan.
The firm has also finalised the closure of its London and Frankfurt offices, initiated last year. It now operates with a slimmed-down team of 11 professionals. Motion Equity Partners still manages the Electra European Fund II, which closed in 2005 on €1.25bn.
Cognetas spun out of Electra Partners in 2005 but suffered setbacks in recent years, relinquishing control of several portfolio companies. Rival GP Charterhouse offered to take over the portfolio of Cognetas' second fund in September last year – the offer was rejected by Cognetas' LPs, according to reports.
Motion Equity Partners will still target buyouts of European companies valued at up to €400m. It will focus on opportunities in the business services, healthcare, food & beverage, and media sectors.
