3i loses private equity heads
3i partner and managing director David Whileman has resigned from the listed firm, while Nordic managing director Tomas Ekman is also stepping down.
Whileman is leaving to join a smaller private equity operation and will be focusing on minority investing. He joined 3i in 1997 and has been responsible for new and existing investments in the UK. Whileman led the acquisitions of 15 companies while at the firm, including architect group Foster and Partners, environmental consultants SLR and insurance group Hyperion.
Meanwhile, Ekman will be jointly replaced by Fredrik Karlsson and Mattias Eklund, who will become co-heads of 3i's Nordic team from 1 July.
According to a statement from 3i, the reshuffle of the Nordic team is part of the firm's wider plan to restructure its Nordic operations, reducing the team from four to two.
Ekman joined 3i in February 2004 and most recently worked on the divestment of Norway-based Xellia Pharmaceuticals.
