SABIC launches venture capital arm
Saudi Basic Industries Corporation has established SABIC Ventures in the Netherlands.
SABIC, a global manufacturer of chemicals, fertilizers, metals and plastics, announced the launch of its own venture capital arm today. SABIC Ventures will be based in the Netherlands and will primarily focus on supporting business in the technology sector.
SABIC Ventures will target early and later-stage investments. The creation of the business is motivated by the aim to build a portfolio of technology companies that benefit the core business of the company.
The Innovation Fund, from which venture capital will be sourced, will be managed by SABIC. The fund will be focused on start-up investments in the areas of advanced materials and composites, alternative feedstocks for chemicals and materials, and alternative energy and cleantech.
