3i-backed Refresco acquires SDI
3i-backed soft drinks and fruit juice producer Refresco has acquired Soft Drinks International (SDI) as part of the company’s buy-and-build strategy.
The investor did not provide additional equity, as the €84m investment made in March 2010 included capital for future acquisitions. Refresco's acquisition of SDI will support its expansion in Germany.
SDI is a German producer of soft drinks and bottled water and is primarily active in the German and Benelux markets. It has production facilities in Erftstadt and Heerlen. The company recorded a turnover of €140m in 2009.
Refresco produces soft drinks and fruit juices and was founded in 2000. The company is headquartered in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, and has 19 production sites in eight countries employing more than 2,200 staff. Refresco recorded a turnover of €1.14bn in 2009.
3i supported the €310m management buyout of Refresco in 2003 and exited the investment in 2006. The investor acquired a 20% stake in the company in March 2010 following an €84m investment.
