Penta becomes sole owner of Dôvera despite nationalisation talks
Central European investor Penta has acquired the remaining 50% of portfolio company Dôvera from Prefto Holding Ltd to become the sole owner of the Slovak health insurance firm.
The acquisition sees the GP take a stand against a recent initiative introduced by the Slovak government to establish a single state-owned health insurance provider, which included the takeover of Dôvera. Penta refused to sell its existing stake in Dôvera to the Slovak government.
"We are convinced that the possibility of choice and competition between state-owned and private health insurers brings increased efficiency and quality of healthcare and related services," Penta partner Eduard Maták said in a statement. "This attempt at introducing a state-owned monopoly is a clear step back, which will not improve healthcare financing and will negatively affect both patients and medical professionals. We intend to do everything to prevent the end of free selection of health insurer in Slovakia," he added.
Previous funding
Penta acquired its original stake in Dôvera in 2002. The GP successfully backed the restructuring and merger of the firm with health insurer Apollo to create the Dôvera brand. Prefto entered the firm's shareholder base in 2009 as part of the merger.
Company
Based in Bratislava, Dôvera is a health insurance firm operating in Slovakia with a market share of 27%. The company provides insurance services to more than 1.4 million customers in Slovakia.
