Latham poaches Clifford Chance’s Germany head

Latham & Watkins has hired Oliver Felsenstein, Clifford Chance’s former head of corporate advisory in Germany, as partner.
Burc Hesse, a former Clifford Chance partner active in M&A and private equity, has also joined Latham.
Both Hesse and Felsenstein will advise on mergers and acquisitions, both in Germany and internationally, focusing in particular on private equity transactions. While at Clifford Chance, Hesse specialised in healthcare and life sciences deals.
Clifford Chance announced Felsenstein's promotion to head of corporate advisory in Germany in August last year. His term was set to last for four years from 1 September. He had been a partner at the law firm since 2006.
While at Clifford Chance, Felsenstein advised on deals including Permira's purchase of chemicals manufacturer CABB International for €800m and Clayton Dubilier & Rice's €1.2bn buyout of the Mauser group.
Hesse advised Chequers Capital on the sale of its majority stake in Deutsche Telekabel to rival cable TV provider PrimaCom.
Clifford Chance has seen the departure of several German lawyers in recent months. According to German media, Cosima Mai left the firm to join Arqis as a partner in October, while Christoph Witte also departed in August.
