
Berliner Volksbank launches venture capital arm
German cooperative bank Berliner Volksbank is set to launch a venture capital vehicle, aiming to invest €20m in total.
The bank will inject between €250,000-1m per startup, with an option to increase tickets up to €4m.
The vehicle will not be restricted to a specific sector, but Berliner Volksbank stated it will focus on companies with a digital business model, including fintech companies.
The fund will not provide seed capital, instead focusing on companies that are already generating profits. Berliner Volksbank hopes the startups will become customers at a later stage and take out loans.
The bank plans a cooperation with Berlin-based venture capital firm Redstone Digital, which will screen the market and analyse potential investment opportunities.
