
DB Private Equity invests €15m in windeln.de
DB Private Equity has joined the existing backers of windeln.de in a €15m funding round for the online retailer.
The company's existing backers are DN Capital, Acton Capital Partners, MCI Management and 360 Capital Partners.
The fresh capital will be used to further expand the company into new regions and extend its product offering. This follows the acquisition of Swiss baby product online retailer kindertraum.ch at the end of last year.
Previous funding
According to unquote" data, windeln.de first received funding in September 2010, before its official launch one month later. Media and technology investor DN Capital invested $3-4m, while High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and several business angels and company managers also provided financing.
A series-A round followed in May 2011, in which the existing investors were joined by Acton Capital Partners. The deal was said to be worth less than €10m.
February 2012 saw the existing investors inject a further €5-10m in growth funding in a series-B round. The series-C financing round was conducted a year later and earned the company both €15m in funding and new investors MCI Management and 360 Capital Partners. Seed investor HTGF exited the company.
Company
Launched in October 2010, the Munich-based online retailer offers more than 55,000 baby and children's products from more than 800 brands. Products include nappies, baby food, skin care products, safety gates, monitors and car seats, as well as clothing and toys.
The company's 2013 revenues have exceeded €100m, compared to a €50m run rate in 2012. According to windeln.de, more than 70% of orders came from existing customers.
The company employs more than 100 staff members.
