Carlyle buys minority stake in Schön clinic group
Private equity firm The Carlyle Group has acquired a minority stake in German clinic chain Schön Klinik.
The deal follows an auction process run by Altium, in which CVC and EQT also participated. The company was valued at €1.5bn, as several newspapers have reported.
The investment by Carlyle will be used to fund the clinic chain's expansion plans. It is due to open a site in London in 2017; this will be Schön's first clinic outside Germany.
Company
Schön runs hospitals with 9,400 employees in 17 locations across Germany, including Bavaria, Hessia and Hamburg. It focuses on psychosomatic medicine, orthopaedics, nerology, surgery and internal medicine.
Schön had a turnover of €743m and EBITDA of €130m in 2015.
