Mangrove leads Helpling's series-A
Mangrove Capital Partners has led a €13.5m series-A round for Rocket Internet start-up Helpling, a cleaning service app.
Phenomen Ventures and Point Nine Capital also participated in the round. The fresh capital will enable the company to improve its product and its marketing efforts.
According to Mangrove, the domestic cleaning industry is worth €100bn. It cited the company's globalisation prospects and consumer loyalty as reasons to invest.
Helpling stated 90% of domestic cleaning in Germany is arranged on the black market and the company aims to make this legal.
Helpling has competition in the space: in July, DN Capital invested between €1-5m into online cleaning portal Book A Tiger. The company was set up by Delivery Hero co-founders Claude Ritter and Nikita Fahrenholz.
Company
Founded in April this year, Rocket Internet based Helpling on US company Homejoy. Homejoy established itself in Germany shortly afterwards.
Through Helpling's online offering, customers can book professional cleaners for €12.90 per hour.
Helpling is now active in 150 cities in eight countries, with 50 cities in Germany alone. It has eight employees.
People
Philip Huffmann and Benedict Franke are co-founders of Helpling. Hans-Jürgen Schmitz is from Mangrove and will take a seat on the Helpling board.
