Antoine Papiernik appointed chair of Sofinnova Partners
Antoine Papiernik has been appointed chair of French venture capital firm Sofinnova Partners, taking over from Denis Lucquin.
Lucquin will continue to be part of Sofinnova, staying on as managing partner.
Papiernik was previously managing partner, having joined the firm in 1997. He has managed the Sofinnova Capital IV, V, VI and VII funds, and has been responsible for the life sciences, biopharmaceuticals, industrial biotechnology and medical devices sectors.
He previously served as investment manager at CDC Entreprises Capital Investissement. He has also worked at Unilever and venture firm Innovation Capital.
At Sofinnova, Papiernik was the lead investor in deals including Actelion, ProQR, NovusPharma, Movetis, Mainstay, Pixium Vision and Stentys (now all listed).
Papiernik currently sits on the boards of Gecko Biomedical, MD Start, Shockwave Medical, Rgenix, Corwave and Reflexion Medic.
In his new role, he will keep expanding the firm, especially in the life sciences sector. In December 2015, Sofinnova closed Sofinnova Capital VIII on €300m, dedicated to early-stage investments in the health sector. The GP recently also held a first closing on €106m for IB 1, dedicated to the biotechnology sector.
The firm currently has a 29-strong team.
