Idinvest's, Cherry Tree's Molotov in exclusivity with Altice
Idinvest Partners and Cherry Tree Invest portfolio company Molotov is in exclusive talks over a potential sale to telecommunications and media group Altice France, the French subsidiary of Luxembourg-headquartered Altice.
According to TechCrunch, the proposed deal would see the strategic buyer investing hundreds of millions of euros for a majority stake in the company.
France-headquartered Molotov, which operates an online video streaming platform, first received backing from Idinvest in 2014, when the GP took part in a €4.5m early-stage round alongside business angels. Idinvest acquired an 18.2% shareholding as part of the initial round.
Two years later, Idinvest was joined by Cherry Tree in a $23.3m funding round for the company, in which trade investors Sky and TDF also took place.
Molotov was founded by AlloCiné founder JeanDavid Blanc and Canal+ founder Pierre Lescur. The business has seven million users, according to a statement.
