Accent takes majority stake in Akademibokhandeln
Accent Equity Partners has bought a 65% stake in Swedish book retailer Akademibokhandeln from Kooperativa FУЖrbundet (KF), the Swedish cooperative group.
The GP's acquisition was made through its Accent Equity 2012 fund. Stiftelsen Bokförlaget Natur & Kultur, and Killbergs Bokhandel were the largest shareholders in the company after KF, and will retain their stakes following Accent's acquisition.
An offer has been made to buy out the remaining 60 or so shareholders in Akademibokhandeln, of which 90% are reported to have accepted. It is understood the company's management has received an offer to invest alongside Accent as part of the deal.
KF's sale comes as part of a restructuring and streamlining of the group that began two years ago, and is the second private equity deal as a result of these efforts, following Litorina's acquisition of Leo's Lekland in October last year.
