Rothschild in the running for Byron
Lord Jacob Rothshild's RIT Capital Partners has joined the bidding war for high-end burger chain Byron.
Already vying for Byron is French private equity house Quilvest, TDR Capital and Searchlight Capital Partners. It is thought that the burger chain could fetch around £100m.
Byron's current owner Gondola Holdings (backed by Cinven) brought in DC Advisory to advise on the sale. Gondola also owns restaurant chains Pizza Express, Ask and Zizzi.
The heightened interest in Byron highlights the industry's continued preference for the casual dining sector. In March, 3i and Risk Capital Partners sold their stakes in UK restaurant chain Giraffe to supermarket giant Tesco, in a deal which valued the company at £48.6m. Furthermore, LDC invested £20m in Hill Capital Partners' entirely restaurant-focused vehicle in September last year.
