BGF hires Midven's Sorby
Business Growth Fund (BGF) has appointed Midven’s Debbie Sorby as a portfolio manager in its Birmingham office.
Sorby leaves her role as portfolio manager at Midven after one year at the firm, where she primarily worked with companies in its £18m Exceed Fund. The vehicle covers a variety of sectors including software, travel & tourism, medical equipment, business support services and electronic equipment companies.
Prior to joining Midven, Sorby had stints at YFM Equity Partners, Connection Capital and 3i.
BGF invested £60m in Midlands-based companies throughout 2015 and has made an additional three investments in the region in 2016. Most recently it invested £8m in 3D design software company Solid Solutions.
The GP has made a number of appointments over the past year, in particular adding to its northern English offices. In December it hired Mike Clarke for its investment team in Leeds, while two months earlier it recruited Rob Johnson and Pinesh Mehta as investors in its Leeds and Manchester offices.
