
Index et al. in $60m round for Secret Escapes
Index Ventures, Octopus Investments and Atlas Venture have taken part in a $60m series-C round led by Google Ventures for portfolio company Secret Escapes, the UK-based online holiday booking platform.
The investment will fund the company's expansion into the US and Asian markets.
In addition to its organic international growth strategy, Secret Escapes has also been making acquisitions, most recently bolting on Polish competitor Travelist in June 2014.
Spokespeople from Index and Octopus declined to comment, though Google Ventures' Tom Hulme has tweeted confirmation of the deal.
Previous funding
Octopus and Atlas took part in seed funding rounds for Secret Escapes in April 2011 and October 2011. Index then led an £8m round for the company in October 2012, with Octopus and Atlas also taking part.
Company
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in London, Secret Escapes is a membership-based platform for booking last-minute holiday deals, focusing primarily on four- and five-star hotel bookings.
According to International Business Times, the company generated sales of £65m in 2013.
