Ventech closes fund, opens Munich office
Ventech, the former venture arm of Natixis Private Equity, has closed its Ventech Capital F fund above target on €110m and opened a new Germany office.
The Munich office is being led by managing partner Christian Claussen, who joined the firm from Omnes Capital two years ago during Ventech's spinout from Natixis. He was previously at TVM Capital Management.
Investors
European Investment Fund was the final investor in Ventech's fourth fund, Ventech Capital F, bringing it to a close on €110m. The vehicle, which launched in 2012 when Ventech span out of Natixis, had been targeting €100m. The ERP-EIF Dachfonds and LfA EIF Facility, which are dedicated to investments in Germany and Bavaria, have committed up to €25m to the venture fund.
Other investors in the fund include Natixis Private Equity, BPI France Investissement, AG2R, Malakoff Médéric, several entities of Groupe BPCE, Pactinvest and several international family offices. The fund held a first close on €85m in November 2012.
Investments
Ventech Capital F aims to invest in approximately 20 companies in the digital and technology sectors during its lifespan. It particularly looks to the B2B, technology infrastructure and hardware segments. Although its focus is on France and Germany, it will look as far afield as Russia and Turkey.
Ventech invested in four companies in 2013. Its first deal of the year took place in March, when it contributed around €3.5m to a €6.5m funding round for Ad Valem Technologies. Two months later, Ventech led a €3.1m funding round into Sticky Ads TV, a French online advertising agency. It invested in advertising again in November, partnering with German Startups Group to back Berlin-based TVSmiles, an interactive advertisement application. Its final deal of the year was completed just before Christmas, when it backed customised wall décor company Picanova with between €2-10m.
