Sunstone Capital et al. lead €9m series-B for Dubsmash
Venture capital houses Sunstone Capital, Balderton Capital and Index Ventures have co-led a €9m series-B round for Berlin-based video messaging app Dubsmash.
Other participating backers include Eniac Ventures and Lowercase Capital.
As part of the deal, Sunstone general partner Maximilian Niderhofer will sit on the company's board alongside Index general partner Danny Rimer and Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen, a partner at Balderton.
Following Dubsmash co-founder Roland Grenke's departure in June 2016, the company has gone through a cost reduction programme that saw seven people leave the firm, according to press reports.
Previous funding
In July 2014, Dubsmash raised a €300,000 seed round from Hasso Plattner Ventures alongside angel investors.
More recently, Index led a €4.9m series-A round for the company, alongside Eniac, Lowercase, Raine Ventures and Sunstone. As part of the deal, Index general partner Danny Rimer and Raine managing partner Gordon Rubenstein joined the company's board.

Established in 2014 and headquartered in Berlin, Dubsmash develops a video messaging app for mobile devices. According to press reports, the pre-revenues company currently employs 27 people.
