
Balderton in $2.5m seed round for Furhat Robotics
Balderton Capital has taken part in a $2.5m seed round for Furhat Robotics, a Sweden-based startup that implements conversational operating systems into robots.
UK venture capital firm LocalGlobe also participated in the seed investment round.
Furhat intends to use the fresh capital to form new commercial partnerships in various industries. Potential sectors it is eyeing include education and training; therapy and social care; customer service; and entertainment.
The firm's technology is currently being used by the Swedish employment agency to help train people for job interviews and as a teaching assistant in several Stockholm schools. Additionally, Honda is developing Furhat as a conversational tool for the elderly in smart home environments.

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Stockholm, Furhat Robotics builds conversational operating systems for robots. It projects computer animation onto 3D-printed masks to create expressions, while a social intelligence platform can be programmed to participate in socially aware interactions with people.
