IK sells EPiServer to Accel-KKR
IK Investment Partners has sold Swedish digital marketing and e-commerce business EPiServer to Accel-KKR, a US-based joint venture firm focused on software and IT-enabled investments.
The deal is understood to have an enterprise value of around SEK 1.25-1.5bn.
Helena Stjernholm, partner at IK told Swedish media the deal made positive returns for the GP. The original acquisition is likely to have been in the SEK 600-750m range, as EPiServer was valued at SEK 650m in an abandoned 2010 IPO, before IK's acquisition a few months later.
The sale was made to Accel-KKR's $850m 2012 vintage fourth fund, which recently acquired a similar company, Ektron; some US trade publications have suggested a merger or partnership between Ektron and EPiServer.
EPiServer CEO Martin Henricson said the company's new owner will boost its operations in the US.
According to unquote" data, EPiServer has increased its revenue by around half since being bought by IK, from around SEK 190m in 2010 to SEK 290m last year.
Previous funding
EPiServer was backed by Northzone and Amadeus Capital Partners in 2007, when the two led a €17.5m funding round for the company.
The business had been set for an IPO in June 2010, but the listing was eventually aborted, reportedly due to the eurozone crisis.
IK acquired EPiServer in November 2010 through the GP's €1.25bn Industri Kapital 2007 fund for around SEK 650m, based on the value set in the IPO.
Company
Based in Stockholm, EPiServer is a provider of web content management platforms focused on e-commerce and digital marketing.
The company was founded in 1994 and employs 110 people. Last year it had revenues of SEK 290m and profits of SEK 29m.
