Balderton promotes two to partner

London-headquartered VC Balderton Capital has added Rob Moffat (pictured) and James Wise to its partner roster.
Hitherto a principal at Balderton, Moffat was first employed by Bain & Company between 2000 and 2007. A consultant there, he was promoted to case team leader and worked with private equity, energy and retail clients.
In late 2009, after a three-year stint as a manager within Google's London-based team, he was recruited by Balderton and was successively appointed to the board of portfolio companies including Nutmeg, Prodigy Finance and Qubit.
Meanwhile, Wise joined Balderton in 2012, after roles at consultancy McKinsey & Company, Atomico Ventures, Oxfam, Guardian Media Group and Social Business Trust. At Balderton, he has focused on early-stage technology startups and became board member at seven companies including Crowdcube and 3D Hubs.
The promotion of Moffat and Wise brings Balderton's partner count up to eight. Since late 2013, the VC has appointed five new people to the role. First to be added was Daniel Waterhouse, a former partner at Wellington Partners and 3i who joined the VC in October 2013.
This was followed by the hires of Suranga Chandratillake, the founder of search engine blinkx, and Uber and Dropbox executive Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen in January 2014 and September 2015, respectively.
In addition to the new partners, Balderton recruited Amazon's Gilles Stephan as talent director in June 2015.
