Balderton leads $10m series-A round for Citymapper
Balderton Capital has led a $10m series-A funding round for Citymapper, the real-time transport information app developer.
The capital will be used to expand the number of cities covered by Citymapper - currently limited to London, New York, Paris and Berlin - and to recruit new employees.
Capital for the deal was drawn from Balderton's fifth fund, set up specifically to invest in series-A rounds for European technology companies. Balderton V closed recently on $305m after launching in May 2013, according to documents filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Connect Ventures, Index Ventures and Greylock Partners also joined the round alongside a number of angel investors.
Balderton stated that it had been monitoring Citymapper since 2011, when the app was called Busmapper. The VC was attracted by the product's specific focus on public transport, its functionality and distinctive design.
In March this year, Balderton led an $8m series-B investment in hotel recommendation website Top10.com, drawing capital from its fourth fund.
