IMEC Incubation Fund launched with Euro 5m
The Leuven-based Incubation Fund has been launched with a capital of Euro 5m. In addition to IMEC, the shareholders include KBC Investco, Fortis Private Equity, Software Holding & Finance, and V.E.M. Chaudfontaine. Three proposals for incubation projects focused on telecommunications, biotechnology and EDA are currently underway.
Professor Gilbert Declerck, president and CEO of IMEC, comments: “Setting up new companies in the high-tech sector requires a large amount of start-up capital. In addition, these new companies usually represent high-risk investments. That’s why IMEC and several financial partners have set up the IMEC Incubation Fund to stimulate new possible spin-off initiatives by providing the necessary (pre) seed capital to prepare prototype products and market introduction during the incubation period.â€
