Oost NV launched in the Netherlands
The Dutch regional development agencies OOM (the Regional Development Agency for Overijssel) and GOM (the Regional Development Agency for Gelderland) have merged to create one agency covering the whole eastern part of the country. The new organisation is called Oost NV (the Development Agency for East Netherlands) and its focus is to strengthen and stimulate the economy of the provinces of Overijssel and Gelderland. The organisation's principal function is to act as the bridge between national and provincial governments and their respective companies. The former OOM and GOM have worked together often in the past in various knowledge and clustering projects, often with many companies and knowledge institutes in both regions. The new organisation represents the formalisation of this cooperation. The new development agency has also created its own NV, Participatiemaatschappij Oost Nederland NV (Participation Company for East Netherlands NV), with its own board of directors and its own advisory board of commissioners. Oost NV will seek investment opportunities in high-tech and mature companies, particularly prevalent in the East Netherlands region, as well as infrastructure creating activities. The company's capital under management amounts to roughly EUR 48m. Co-shareholders are the University of Twente and the Saxion University for Professional Education (together holding 8% of the shares), and additional shareholders in the new development agency are the Ministry for Economic Affairs (57.6%), the Province of Gelderland (33.5%), and the Province of Overijssel (8.8%)
