Record fundraising expected in 2005
The five largest funds to start fundraising in 2005 will have an aggregate target size of over E20bn, according to a survey by Strategic Capital Management AG (SCM). The total amount in funds raised for buyouts in 2005 is expected to exceed the existing record from the year 2000, with US firms such as Kohlberg Kravis Roberts launching European funds to compete for investor's allocations in the large buyout market. SCM's survey focuses on those US investors which play an increasingly important role in the large deals market, typically in deals greater than E2bn. According to SCM, during 2002-2004, US GPs held 25% by volume and 26% by value of deals in the European buyout market.
