Waterland names van Cauwenberghe as next group managing partner

Netherlands-headquartered Waterland Private Equity has announced that Cedric Van Cauwenberghe will succeed Frank Vlayen as its new group managing partner as of May 2023.
Vlayen has held the role since 2015, replacing former Chairman and founder Rob Thielen. He will continue with Waterland in the role of managing partner, focusing on investments and portfolio companies.
Van Cauwenberghe has been unanimously elected by Waterland’s partners, according to a statement. He joined Waterland in 2006 and was promoted to partner in 2012, followed by managing partner in 2018.
In his new role, van Cauwenberghe will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Waterland and will chair the GP’s investment committee. He will also be responsible for Waterland’s investor relations functions and will continue to lead deals in the Belgian market.
Waterland was founded in 1999 and has 12 offices in 10 European counties, including UK offices in London and Manchester.
The firm specialises in buy-and-build strategies and the GP is currently deploying equity via its EUR 2.5bn, 2020-vintage Waterland Private Equity Fund VIII. The GP’s recent investments include tax and audit adviser Cooper Parry and it has made six new platforms to date in 2022, according to Unquote Data.
