Social IV reaches €19m first close
Social Impact Ventures NL (Social IV) has held a first close on €19m for its Social Impact Venture Fund I following commitments from the European Investment Fund.
The final close of the Netherlands-based vehicle is expected in July 2016.
Investors
The fund has so far received commitments from the EIF as well as non-institutional investors, including families, high-net-worth individuals and foundations.
Investments
Fund I will target growth investments in Dutch organisations where performance is linked to social impact. The vehicle has already made several investments, including in Taxi Electric, a fully electric vehicle taxi company that predominantly employs long-term unemployed people aged 50 and over; and Afval Loont, a waste collection company that rewards people for separating their waste.
The fund is seeking to invest growth capital in social enterprises that offer commercial solutions for social and environmental challenges. Its main focus is cleantech, bio systems, economic development, civic engagement, health and wellbeing, and education. Typical investments range between €500,000-3m.
