Karmijn acquires art lessor Kunst.nl
Dutch investment firm Karmijn Kapitaal has taken a majority stake in art rental platform Kunst.nl.
The investment was made via Karmijn's second buyout fund, Karmijn Kapitaal II, which recently closed on its €90m hard-cap. It is the first investment made via the fund.
With Karmijn's backing, the company, formerly known as Business Art Service and currently providing B2B services, will look to open up to consumers and develop B2C activities. It intends to expand both organically and through acquisitions.
Karmijn was founded in 2010 by Désirée van Boxtel, Hadewych Cels and Cilian Jansen Verplanke. An entirely female-led firm, Karmijn targets Dutch businesses in which gender balance is respected – Karmijn Kapitaal I, the firm's first investment vehicle, only invested in companies where at least a quarter of the management team was female.
Company
Based in Raamsdonksveer, the Netherlands, Kunst.nl provides commercial art rental services. The company services 2,000 clients in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Its art collection consists of 40,000 contemporary works. New paintings, sculptures and photographic works are added to the collection on a yearly basis, both from known and upcoming artists.
