Walvis exits product information service Syndy to trade
VC firm Walvis Participaties has sold its stake in Syndy, a Dutch provider of product information, to American company Icecat.
Walvis sold a minority stake; the VC firm first invested in the company in 2013.
All other previous external shareholders have been bought out as part of the transaction. The acquisition sees Syndy's founders, Pieter van Herpen and Rogier Pennink, hold onto 8% of the shares.
Walvis is a Dutch venture capital firm with €60m in AUM. It invests in seed and early-stage Dutch internet technology startups and is currently deploying its third fund.
Syndy has received around €3m in funding in the past seven years, first in the form of seed investments and afterwards as a series-A round. The company started generating revenue in 2015.

Founded in 2010 and based in Amstelveen, Syndy helps brands to share information about their products with retailers and implement e-commerce strategies. In 2013 it pivoted from a B2C model to a B2B one. Some of its clients include Philips Lighting, AkzoNobel, Nestlé and Grolsch. The company generated a turnover of €1m in 2017.
