
Blue Horizon leads $10m extended series-B for Mosa Meat
Luxembourg-based venture capital investor Blue Horizon Ventures has led a $10m extended series-B round for Dutch company Mosa Meat, a producer of lab-grown meat.
The funding is its third and find closing of its series-B funding round, bringing the total capital raised in the round to $85m. Since its founding in 2016, it has raised a total of $96m.
Also taking part in the round were Netherlands-based processed meat and fish feed producer Nutreco, and Jitse Groen, the CEO of Just Eat.
The startup will use the proceeds to extend its current pilot production facility in Maastricht, develop an industrial production line and expand its team.
The company said on its website that over the past few years it had made significant scientific breakthroughs, brought the price of cultivated meat down considerably and was now focused on scaling up the production process, and getting its first products to market.
Previous funding
Mosa Meat in July 2018 raised €7.5m in a series-A funding round led by M Ventures and Bell Food Group. In January 2020, Nutreco invested €2m in the startup.
In September 2020, the company raised $55m in the first series-B round led by Blue Horizon Ventures, with M Ventures, Agronomics, Nutreco and Kilara Capital taking part. In December 2020, it raised a further $20m from Blue Horizon, Target Global, Mitsubishi, Arctern, and Rubio Impact Ventures.
