Earlybird sells BMEYE for €32.5m
Earlybird has sold Dutch medical diagnostics company BMEYE to Edwards Lifescience Corporation for €32.5m, reaping a 26% IRR on its investment.
Edwards Lifescience Corporation is a medical equipment company specialised in the monitoring of hemodynamics and heart valves. It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE:EW) with a market cap of $10bn.
The purchase of BMEYE is expected to have a dilutive effect on Edwards' earnings in 2013.
Following the sale, BMEYE will develop its technology solutions and integrate them into the Edwards EV 1000 clinical platform for acute care units.
In October 2009, Earlybird led an expansion financing round worth €6m for BMEYE. Other investors included 360° Capital Partners, Life Science Partners and Tech Capital Europe. Thom Rasche joined the board of the company as part of the transaction.

Based in Amsterdam, the company was founded in 2005 as a spin-off from TNO Biomedical Instrumentation.
