PHSC's Skin Vision raises €3m
A portfolio company of Personal Health Solutions Capital (PHSC), Dutch skin cancer detection app Skin Vision, has raised €3m in a series-A follow-on, led by Danish pharmaceutical company Leo Pharma.
Skin Vision's majority shareholder and previous investor PHSC, which has been invested since the first fundraising in 2012, participated in this round as well.
The latest fundraising effort brings the startup's total raised to between €5-6m.
The fresh capital, as well as a collaboration with Leo Pharma, will enable Skin Vision to develop the use of its technology in other skin disease areas and increase its turnover. The startup states it has not generated significant revenues yet.
Skin Vision is the only skin cancer detector app that has obtained CE certification in Europe, meaning that the product complies with the essential requirements of the European health, safety and environmental protection legislation.
Earlier in 2015, Danish-Serbian skin cancer detection app TeleSkin received a DKK 6m investment from SEED Capital.
Company
Founded in 2010 and based in Amsterdam, the startup Skin Vision developed an app that allows users to track changes in their moles and thereby detect skin cancer. Users take photos of their mole and the app performs a visual analysis to identify suspicious growth such as melanoma. The app was downloaded 200,000 times since its launch in 2011 and is available for users of iOS and Android.
