Video: EU regulation's impact on CEE-focused funds
IPES commercial director Justin Partington talks to Greg Gille about the current challenges facing CEE-focused private equity funds.
Regulation will not so much affect GPs depending on where they are based, but where their investors are located, Partington told unquote" at the CEE unquote" Private Equity Congress in April.
He added that EU regulation would have a significant impact in the region due to closer ties within the banking landscape: "Two thirds of banks in the CEE region are satellite branches of EU banks – they are also affected by Basel III, and that is having a significant impact on capital reductions and proprietary private equity programmes. This could in turn lead to spinoffs of new private equity players, as well as mezzanine and high-yield debt filling in."
