Haarmann Hemmelrath
Banking and capital market law specialist Dr Christoph Schmitt has joined in the Frankfurt am Main office of Haarmann Hemmelrath. The 35-year-old lawyer made the switch from Clifford Chance to Haarmann Hemmelrath, joining the firm as national partner on 14 February. Schmitt studied law in Heidelberg and Frankfurt am Main and was awarded his doctorate in public banking law in 1999. He began his career with Commerzbank AG in the corporate business area. After a number of years looking after private clients for the Credit Suisse Group AG in Zurich and as legal counsel at Credit Suisse (Deutschland) AG in Frankfurt am Main, he moved to Clifford Chance in 2002 to practise in the area of banking and capital market law. His main areas of expertise include European and German banking supervisory law, structured financing, derivatives as well as more general areas relating to private and public banking and capital market law. Following hot on the heels of IP/IT expert Dr Stephan Rippert, Corporate/ M&A lawyers Dr Joachim Heine and Dr Jan Wildberger, tax law specialists Dr Joachim Krämer and Dr Roderic Pagel as well as litigation lawyer Francis Bellen, Christoph Schmitt is the seventh new partner to join the Frankfurt office since November 2004. Christoph Schmitt will also bolster the banking and finance law practice group which currently comprises some 30 experts servicing all 22 Haarmann Hemmelrath offices. Major competence areas include acquisition and working capital finance, ABS finance and currently advice in relation to non-performing loans.
