Sonya Pauls leaves KWM for Clifford Chance
Sonya Pauls has left King & Wood Mallesons (KWM), where she was head of funds in Germany, to join Clifford Chance.
She joins Clifford Chance as a partner in the investment funds team. Pauls worked out of KWM's Munich office and will remain in the city in her new role for Clifford Chance, which she will take up on 1 October.
She will work with the German funds team and the international private funds group, advising domestic as well as international clients.
Pauls specialises in new fundraisings and advising funds throughout their lifecycle, as well as large fund structuring and other fund-related issues such as fund restructuring and mediation processes.
From 2014 until March 2016, she was managing partner of KWM's German practice together with Stefan Krüger. Pauls joined the law firm in 2000. A recent fund she worked on was Odewald's second fund Odewald KMU II, which closed on its €200m hard-cap in November 2015.
She has also worked with venture capital firms in the past. Among others, Pauls and her team advised Swiss VC Lakestar, which raised €350m for its second fund.
Pauls is Clifford Chance's second new partner in Germany within a year. In November 2015, Anselm Raddatz, who specialises in M&A, joined the firm. He recently advised Triton on its purchase of Fläkt Woods.
