King & Wood Mallesons partner Brenner moves to Orrick
Cristoph Brenner has left law firm King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) for the Munich-based private equity team of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.
Following the turmoil at the Europe and Middle East-dedicated branch of Hong Kong-based law firm KWM, partner Cristoph Brenner has left the firm to join Orrick's Munich private equity team in January 2017. Two associates will follow the partner and settle in Munich, according to press reports.
Brenner began his carrier at UK law firm SJ Berwin in 2001, which merged with KWM in 2013, and will join Orrick's Munich-based private equity team.
Orrick's team has seen several appointments in the last year, including partners Thomas Schmid from Weil Gotshal & Manges and Fabian von Samson-Himmelstjerna from Ashurst.
According to press reports, KWM's Europe and Middle East business is heading for a pre-pack administration in January 2017, following failed negotiations for the refinancing of its £30m debt burden.
Five partners have left the London firm this year, including managing partner Rob Day, who joined Proskauer Rose; managing partner Sonya Pauls, who left for Clifford Chance in September; partners Christian Schatz and Martin Brockhausen, who joined law firm Flick Gocke Schaumburg; and funds head Michael Haltford, who left the firm for Goodwin Procter.
