VC-backed Private Sale acquires Triphunter
Shopping community Private Sale, owned by a consortium including Mangrove Capital Partners, has acquired VC-funded travel portal Triphunter.
Berlin-based online shopping portal company Private Sale has around 200 employees and expects to hire an additional 100 people in the short term. Its website brands4friends has 2.5 million members and the company is active in Germany, Austria and the UK. Members gain access to exclusive offers on discounted branded goods.
Founded in 2007, the company is backed by Partech International, Mangrove Capital Partners und Holtzbrinck Ventures.
The acquisition of Triphunter will enable Private Sale to expand its service offering to include a travel and events portal. The company is also targeting other companies for further expansion.
Online travel portal Triphunter offered a number of limited time only trips to its members. The company was founded in January 2008 by Gabriel Graf Matuschka and Matthias Eireiner in Berlin. Backers include business angels Lukasz Gadowski, Oliver Jung and BVP Berlin Venture Partners, as well as Swiss VC firm Redalpine Venture Partners.
The brand Triphunter will be discontinued.
