Montagu buys Universal-Investment
Montagu Private Equity has acquired German investment company Universal-Investment from Berenberg and Bankhaus Lampe.
Montagu does not plan to make changes to the company's strategy or management. Universal-Investment recently entered the real estate and alternative investment sectors.
Universal-Investment claims it quadrupled its administered assets from €70bn to €280bn in the last 10 years.
The deal marks Montagu's second venture into the DACH region's finance sector. In March 2015, it acquired Swiss-based Equatex, a compensation plan service, from UBS. Montagu is currently investing from its Montagu V vehicle, which closed on its €2.75bn hard-cap in August 2015.
Company
Founded in 1968 and based in Frankfurt, Universal-Investment is an asset management business.
The company is divided into three divisions: administration, insourcing and risk management. It focuses on administration of funds, securities, alternative assets and real estate, claiming to have €280bn in assets under administration, with 1,000 mandates and funds.
Universal-Investment has 650 employees and subsidiaries in Luxembourg and Austria.
