HTGF in RadioOpt exit to Vodafone
High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) has sold its minority stake in German network analysis startup RadioOpt as part of Vodafone’s acquisition of the business.
HTGF sold its shares in the company after providing early-stage funding in 2009. The VC stated that further financing was not necessary as break-even was achieved in 2011. The founders repaid the subordinated HTGF convertible loan including interest prematurely, thus retaining 85% of the shares.
The acquisition by Vodafone follows a collaboration between the startup and the telecommunications company struck in 2010. Vodafone made the acquisition in an attempt to optimise its own networks and increase the speed of the rollout of new technologies.
Company
Founded in 2008 and based in Dresden, RadioOpt specialises in performance data at a smartphone level, whereby data on the availability and performance of networks is collected anonymously. Network operators can then use this information as an input for prioritisation and steering during the rollout of new technologies, as well as for the optimisation of existing networks.
