Rocket Internet sells Plinga to Orangegames
A consortium of investors, including VC firm Rocket Internet, has sold its shares in Berlin-based social games publisher Plinga.
Seventure, PD Ventures, Klingel and unnamed business angels will also sell their stakes while Spil Games retains its minority stake.
Orangegames was founded following the merger of several gaming companies and will have seven different products after the acquisition. The brands are Spiele.nl, Zigiz.com, Gembly.com, Yourdagames.com, Oyungemisi.com, Keygames.com and now Plinga.
The acquirer said it is gaining a powerful distribution platform through the purchase of Plinga, giving it access to 3,500 gaming portals worldwide.
Previous funding
The company was originally funded through Rocket Internet's incubator program in 2009, and the VC retained the majority of the shares after Klingel led a new funding round along with Seventure and PD Ventures in 2010.
Company
Founded in 2009 and based in Berlin, Plinga is a distribution platform for free-to-play social games. Its games are played on 3,500 platforms in 10 different languages. The company currently employs 40 people.
