Sycamore sells EMP Merchandising to trade
US-based buyout firm Sycamore Partners has sold its German portfolio company EMP Merchandising to New York-based music publisher Warner Music Group.
The deal ends a holding period of just over three years for Sycamore Partners, which selectively invests in Europe. It currently holds a stake in one other German company, Berlin-based Market Logic Software, which it co-invested in alongside Genui and Summit Partners, according to Unquote Data.
The deal value has not been disclosed although press reports said Warner Music paid $180m for the business.
EMP will become a business unit of Warner Music Group's WEA division, the global artist and label services division. EMP CEO Ernst Trapp and CFO Jan Fischer will continue to manage the unit.
Company
EMP was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Lingen, Germany. It sells merchandise from music brands including Twenty One Pilots, Panic! At The Disco, Metallica, Motörhead, Guns n Roses, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, AC/DC and The Doors.
